What Are Skin Procedures?
Skin procedures involve minor medical interventions to diagnose, treat, or manage skin conditions. Some examples include:
- Biopsy: A small sample of skin is removed and sent for testing to identify or rule out skin cancer or other conditions.
- Excision: A lesion or spot is removed entirely, often with surrounding margins, to ensure no problematic cells are left behind.
- On-the-Day Services: Where time allows, procedures can sometimes be done immediately following a skin check.
Each procedure is performed under local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort, with clear instructions provided for aftercare.
How It Works: From Consultation to Aftercare
- Scheduling: You can book at a convenient time here
- Consultation: Your doctor will assess your skin during a consultation or skin check and determine the need for a procedure.
- Procedure Day: Local anaesthetic is applied, and the procedure is completed with precision. These are typically quick and straightforward.
- Aftercare: You will receive personalised care instructions to help your recovery and promote healing. Any necessary follow-up appointments will be scheduled.
We encourage all our patients to ask as many questions as they need. Our team makes the process as seamless and stress-free as possible, so you feel confident in every step.
Who Might Need a Skin Procedure?
Skin procedures are often needed for:
- Someone with results from a skin cancer check showing suspicious or abnormal findings.
- People managing long-term skin conditions that require regular monitoring and treatment.

We believe in offering care to everyone, ensuring all patients feel welcome and supported regardless of their background or concerns.

FAQs About Skin Procedures
Does a skin procedure hurt?
Most procedures are done under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. You may experience mild discomfort after, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
Can I have a procedure on the same day as my skin check?
If time allows and the doctor advises, some procedures can be completed on the day of your skin check. If not, another appointment will be scheduled promptly.
How long does it take to heal after a skin procedure?
Healing times vary depending on the procedure but generally take 7-14 days. Detailed aftercare instructions will be provided to support a smooth recovery.

FAQs
How Does it work?
Your doctor will assess the highlighted moles and use the powerful dermatoscope to capture up close images of any moles that look suspicious in nature.
A plan will then be made with you and your treating doctor on the course of treatment.
This can incorporate the following:
- Follow up dermoscopy (to monitor moles that don’t need excision at this point in time, but need tracking over a certain period).
- Biopsy of a mole (taking a sample and sending it to the pathology lab for diagnosis).
- Excision (removal of the entire lesion with appropriate margins)
- Cryotherapy (using liquid nitrogen to ablate pre-malignant lesions)
What to expect on the day of my procedure?
When attending for your procedure, you will be assigned a Registered Nurse who will explain anything you may want to ask questions about.
Your treatment room nurse will prepare all things for the doctor pertaining to your procedure and will assist the Doctor throughout your allocated booking time.
You will be provided with aftercare advice and information about what to do if you are concerned and also when to come back for review and / or sutures out.
When do I pay?
Medicare assigns item numbers based on the diagnosis of the mole and the size. This is why we have to hold the billing until you return for your sutures to be taken out or for your review.
The gap fee remains the same, but the initial out of pocket fee will vary depending on the item number assigned by medicare.
When will I get my result?
If there is anything of concern in the biopsy or excision histopathology result, the Doctor will either phone you or place you on a recall to return to the practice. Your doctor will explain the result and if any further treatment is required. This may include referral to plastic / general surgeon, further excision in clinic, follow up cryotherapy or other modalities of treating any residual skin cancer based on the diagnosis.
Price Guide
Note: If an excision or punch biopsy is required, an out-of-pocket fee will apply. Your doctor or nurse will advise you of this at the time.
