PDT is a non-invasive treatment with many benefits to help improve the overall health, look and feel of your skin.
As well as significant cosmetic benefits for sun damaged and aging skin, PDT can be used to treat rosacea, acne, large pores, and skin discolouration due to sun damage.
PDT can also be used to treat hard to treat areas such as the chest, arms, hands and legs.

How does PDT Work?
A naturally occurring substance called ALA is applied to the affected area. When applied to the skin, the ALA is absorbed into abnormal or damaged cells, bacteria and oil glands.
Once absorbed, an LED light is focused on the treated area for a period of time. When exposed to light, the abnormal skin cells are selectively destroyed to reveal fresh, healthy skin cells, less acne and improved skin texture.

PDT is suitable for the treatment of:
- Sun damaged skin
- Pre-cancerous lesions (Solar Keratoses)
- Superficial Basal Cell Carcinomas
- Liver or age spots
- Acne and oily skin
- Hidradenitis Suppurativa
- Warts
- Fine lines and wrinkles
How do I prepare for PDT?
For solar damaged skin, we recommend using medical-grade skin care products by Allmedic for two weeks prior to treatment. These are available for purchase in clinic.
What happens after PDT treatment?
After treatment you will be sensitive to light for up to 48 hours. It is important during this time to limit your exposure to the sun and all forms of bright light including house lights.
Signs of redness, peeling and scabbing are all indicators of a successful treatment. If you are at all concerned about your skin post-treatment, please contact us immediately.
